Bay Homes Stand Tall Against Hurricane Gustav

Hurricane Gustav roared ashore on Monday, Sept. 1 just south and west of New Orleans. This forced approximately 13-15 feet of storm surge into the Bay St. Louis area...just one of many areas on the Mississippi Gulf Coast in which Bay Homes is building. Mayor Eddie Favre reported sustained winds of 40 to 50 mph in Bay St. Louis, with stronger gusts.

Bay Homes has built several homes in the Bayside Park subdivision in Bay St. Louis. But, unlike other builders who built on slabs, either ignoring or possibly unaware of new flood elevations, Bay Homes built our homes to meet the new flood elevation requirements put in place since Hurricane Katrina. Below are photos showing our homes standing tall while the others, all new homes built within the past year, are still surrounded by water the day after the storm. With 4-6 feet of water in some areas of Bayside Park the day of the storm, current information indicates that about 40 of these homes built on slabs had water inside. However, not one of the homes built by Bay Homes got water inside.

ELEVATED HOMES BUILT BY BAY HOMES
Due to Bay Homes building to currently recommended flood elevations, not one Bay Home had water from Gustav.
